MSCS Handwork

Handwork Verses by Grade

May our hands complete our task with patience

May we do our work with care

May our fingers, together work as friends

And WE, our friendship share!

Gratitude!

May our hands complete our task with patience

May we do our work with care

May our fingers, together work as friends

And WE, our friendship share!

Gratitude!

Oh Golden Sun so great and bright,

It warms the Earth with all its MIGHT!

It makes the dark Earth green and fair,

And tends all things with ceaseless care.

It shines on blossom, stone, and tree,

On birds and beasts, on you and me.

Oh! May each deed throughout the day,

May everything we do and say

Be bright!

And strong!

And true!

Oh Golden Sun like you!

Gratitude!

I place myself steadfastly into existence.

With certainty I tread my path in life.

Love, I cherish in the depth of my heart.

Hope I place into all my doing.

Confidence I impress into my thinking.

Our skills needed for the cuff of our mitten are the knit stitch and the purl stitch. Remembering that the knit stitch uses the working yarn in the back (away from you) and the purl stitch happens in the front (towards you).

For the knit stitch, this is simply sending the working yarn over and back between the needles before making the stitch.

For the purl stitch, bring the working  towards you by passing over and between the needles.

Preparing for May Day
Friday May 1st

One of our long standing traditions at MSCS is celebrating May Day!  Celebrating May Day is one way we welcome the new growth of Spring and recognize the beauty of our community.

As our Colorado weather becomes warmer and the colder nights subside, Spring begins to encourage these new things to grow.

Can you think of a few things we have done together at the school to celebrate? Perhaps you may remember the Maypole dancing and making butter to eat with rolls.  We have made Mayday Cones to be shared with the neighbors of the MSCS community along with drawings and poems to honor the season.  And, of course, a song or two have been sung this time of year.

What can we make at home to celebrate?

A very fun and beautiful thing to make is a  Mayday Cone or Mayday Basket.  These are little gifts to be shared with a neighbor or friend.  The most simple are cones made of decorated paper with a little string handle.  An idea or two of what may be placed inside the cone are a drawing or a small letter of friendship or neighborly appreciation. Perhaps some seeds or a handmade butterfly? You may be creative and use your own ideas which will make your own Mayday cones quite special.

We can make our own butter! Yes, we can shake our way to a jar of butter to be enjoyed on some delicious bread!  We will need a small jar with a fitted lid and heavy whipping cream. Fill the jar with the cream leaving a finger two or so width from the top.  Secure the lid and shake for about 5-8 minutes or until the cream thickens into butter!

I look forward to seeing what you decide to make to celebrate Spring!

April 12th – 18th

All year long you have been learning how to make your world more beautiful using your hands.

This week for MSCS Handwork you are invited to make a corner of your house, your room, or even your garden more beautiful by making something with our very own hands.

This may be done using any of the skills you have learned this year and in the previous years! Be creative! It can be with painting, sculpting, knitting, embroidery, weaving, sewing, or even wood working.

Be sure to email your Show & Share photos to Ms. Robinson.
